Behind the Scenes: From Sketch to Final Product
When I first started designing stationery and paper goods, I created everything on the computer using just my rudimentary Photoshop skills. I really enjoyed doing it that way, it was simple and quick to create new designs.
After a few years, my designs started to feel stagnant, like I just couldn’t create what I really wanted, so, I started doodling and drawing my own elements instead of first creating them on the computer. After getting the drawing exactly how I want it, I perfect the design using my design software.
Now that I’ve been doing it this way for a couple of years, I could never go back to creating everything digitally. I love how my own messy doodles can become design elements with clean lines and cohesive colors. Plus, it’s so fun to watch my designs come alive!
Read on to learn how I take my doodles from sketch to final product…
Draw it out and color it in. I like to use colored pencils, but feel free to use markers, crayons or colored pens if you prefer.
Scan your drawing into the computer or if you don’t have a scanner, use your phone to take a picture and upload it that way. Open your design in Photoshop or your favorite graphic design software. Color it in and clean up any rough edges.
Create and print your final product. As you can see from the photos, I made a full stationery set including a notepad, folded note cards and flat note cards.
This adorable moose stationery set is available in the shop!
Choose the full set for just $35.00 or pick and choose your favorite individual pieces for $12.00 each.
