Easy Fall Decorating on a Budget

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year!

I love the cool, crisp air and the brilliant shades of color throughout the trees. Plus, of course it’s the most fun time of year to decorate.

But, holy cow are decorations expensive!

Take these adorable lights for example…they look sort of like candy corn when they’re lit up and they are super cute! They cost $9.99 for just 5 feet. That might be okay if you only want to cover a small area, but, I have 50 feet of deck railing along the front of my house. That would cost $100 for that! For just lights, that’s a little too much for me.

So, instead of wasting a ton of money on decorations that are only hanging for a couple of months, we’re doing all of very fall decorating on a budget. We already have a ton of decorations from past years and we’re working on making some new ones.

I also picked up the delicious cinnamon broom (shown in the photo above) at the Dollar General for just $5.00 and added a few fall accessories that were leftover. We hung it near our front entry, so our guests smell cinnamon as they walk through the door.

As always, I’ve been perusing Pinterest for new DIY ideas for fall decorating and I’ve found a ton! So, today I’m sharing a few of those fall decorating ideas. Below, you’ll find 5 ideas for giving dollar store items a makeover, plus there is 5 really awesome ways to utilize nature and a few things you might have laying around the house.

Enjoy!

I love, love, love this idea! What a great use of fallen branches and twigs. You could use any size glass container and even a battery operated candle instead of real one.

buy a minimum of l.e.d. lighted branches (they come in a box at target), add a few real branches (for more fullness) in a rustic container, with rocks in the bottom to hold the shape of the arrangement:

Again, love the twigs! And I absolutely adore the way this is staged! The oil lantern, the rustic tin cans and the stone behind it all…kinda makes you feel like you’re in a rustic old cabin in the wild west. 🙂

Easy Fall Candle Project Use a 1 1/2 inch bit, that will fit the candle perfectly. You can measure the depth by placing the bit next to a candle and marking the bit with tape. As you drill into the wood, when the tape hits the wood it is time to stop.:
