Dried Apple Slices are the perfect healthy treat for your kids! But, don’t waste your money on them at the store – make them at home for a fraction of the price instead!

{UPDATED OLD POST!} My girls love dried apple slices! But because they are so expensive, I don’t often buy them from the grocery store unless they are on sale. Plain, old fresh apples are a lot cheaper! However, when I’m lucky enough to get a lot of free apples (or find them on sale at the grocery store), I like to make a big batch of dried apple slices in my dehydrator.
Presto Dehydro Electric Food Dehydrator
(If you don’t have a dehydrator, here’s a great tutorial I found on Pinterest that shows you how to use your oven instead.) They make a great snack for the kids, plus you can use them throughout the year, in place of regular apples. Just substitute dried apples for regular apples in any of your baking recipes! So, let’s get started! {Be prepared for photo overload!}
Apple Corer
First, you need an apple corer. I mean you can get by with a sharp paring knife, but you might not have any fingers left when you’re done!

Get an apple corer, just like mine, on Amazon for only $8.99! (Still cheaper than those store-bought apple slices!)

Fresh Apples
Then, you’ve got to core all the apples…

Fresh Apple Slices
And slice all the apples.

Cinnamon Sugar
Once you’ve got all your apples sliced, mix up some cinnamon and sugar.

Dip Apples in Cinnamon Sugar
Then, dip all the apples in!

After your apples are all cinnamon-y and sugar-y, arrange them on your dehydrator trays so that they don’t touch each other.

Turn on the dehydrator and allow the apples to dry as directed in the manufacturer’s instructions (drying times will vary by dehydrator).

  4. Dip the apple slices into a dish of lemon juice to prevent browning.
  5. Mix 1/2 cup white sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon in a small dish.

  7. Arrange the apple slices on dehydrator trays.
  8. Close the lid on your dehydrator. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying apples. Drying times will vary.
