The time has come! Spring has arrived and it’s time to get those seeds started! Why not give them a head start and plant them indoors first?

If this is your first time gardening, you might be wondering how to start a vegetable garden indoors, without putting a lot of time and money into it…you know, just in case it doesn’t work out.

I’ve been there. Believe me! It took me years to just get one lousy house plant to stay alive.

Do you remember that old Miracle Grow commercial where the lady says “My house is where plants come to die”? Yeah, that was me.

But, due to trial and error, I’ve learned a lot of tips and tricks that have helped me not only keep that one lousy house plant alive (for several years, I might add!), but I also managed to produce quite a few vegetables for my family last year!

So, in honor of this upcoming gardening season, I thought it would be fun to share with you how to start a vegetable garden indoors.

Supplies/Equipment Required:

Prepare your materials.

There’s nothing worse than getting your hands all dirty and then realizing you forgot the seeds somewhere else in the house!

Fill your containers with good quality potting soil.

I highly recommend using Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Soil, as it specially formulated to start your vegetable garden indoors. It’s also great for container gardening, if you decide to leave your vegetables in their pots rather than transplanting to the ground.

Follow the instructions!

Read EACH seed packet to determine how deep to plant the seed in your container. Each type of seed needs to be planted at different depths, so be sure to read the directions.

Cover each seed with additional soil, as directed, but don’t press it down.

Add water

Gently, water the soil until just damp.

Place your planted vegetable seeds in a warm, sunny spot and water daily.

Don’t over water!

To test if your plants need more water, gently press the soil around the plant, if the soil sticks to your finger, don’t add more water. If your finger is dry and clean, by all means water…your little seedlings are thirsty!

That’s it! You see, it isn’t all that hard to learn how to plant a vegetable garden indoors. It just takes a little practice and lots of attention.

Now that you know how, you can grow all the produce you need. Plus, you can grow it nearly free and it doesn’t get any better than that!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this little tutorial on How to Start a Vegetable Graden Indoors – before you know it you’ll have more veggies growing than your family can eat!
