Looking for a little old-fashioned comfort food? Why not give this Salisbury Steak recipe a try? It’s easy, delicious and ready in less than 30 minutes!

I’ve never been a huge fan of Salisbury Steak. While I love ground beef, in general, I don’t really like it dripping in gravy. But, the husband does and after 19 years together, I finally made it for him.

And I ate it.

I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t quite as revolting as I remember it being as a kid. But, the husband loved it and has actually requested it a couple more times since I first made it. It seems to have become a new favorite for him.

So, I thought you might want to try my Salisbury steak recipe, too. It’s really easy and it only takes a few minutes to make using simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand.

The next time you’re looking for a little comfort food that is cheap, hearty and easy to throw together, try this Salisbury Steak recipe, it might become your hubby’s new favorite!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

For the "steaks":

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced or chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sage, ground
  • salt and pepper, as desired

For the brown gravy:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • salt and pepper, as desired

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, garlic, sage, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Separate the ground beef mixture into 4 large balls.
  3. Flatten each ball of meat into a thick steak.
  4. Brown steaks in a large skillet on medium-high temperature. Cook on each side for about 4 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  5. Place butter into the skillet and heat on medium-high temperature on bubbling and slightly brown.
  6. Whisk in the flour to create a thick paste.
  7. Add salt and pepper, as desired.
  8. Turn the temperature down to medium. Pour beef broth into the pan, slowly, while stirring to melt down the paste. Continue stirring until the gravy is smooth and creamy.
  9. Return steaks to the pan and continue cooking on medium temperature for an additional 10 to 15 minutes.
  10. Serve hot with mashed potatoes.

Enjoy!
